Series through May 14
The story of Parkview Christian Church began in 1948 on a train bound for Chicago, where two women talked, hoped, and prayed together about what God could do in their community.
They added to their numbers and started a prayer group, and from that small group, Tinley Park Church of Christ (currently Parkview Christian Church) was born in a storefront location on April 15, 1951.
1955 - We moved into the historic Zion Lutheran Church building in Tinley Park and met there for over 20 years.
1978 – Outgrowing the space, the church next moved to 84th Avenue in Tinley Park, and that’s where we were when Pastor Tim Harlow and his family came in 1990. At that time, we had about 150 people in attendance, but in 1997 we grew to 300+ people attending every weekend. We had some decisions to make about the future that God was pushing us into.
2002 – Determined to reach more people, we voted to relocate to the property on Orland Parkway and Wolf Road. No longer being in Tinley Park, we changed our name to Parkview Christian Church and launched the Orland Park Campus with four services and nearly 600 people attending that first weekend.
2006 – Quickly outgrowing our space once again, we added the 2000 seat worship center and have landed on Outreach Magazine’s list of 100 fastest growing and largest churches in the country numerous times in the last 10 years.
2008 – We continued to spread the story of God’s grace even wider by launching our Lockport Campus, which continues to grow and is a huge part of our mission to help everyone take a next step with Jesus.
2013 - We added a chapel and large foyer on the east side of the Orland Park Campus, providing long-needed space for performing weddings and funerals.
2015 - Parkview was approached by a church in Homer Glen and was presented with the opportunity to acquire their building, and to expand on the ministry that this congregation began there. It was a beautiful building with great ministry space and a perfect location on 159th Street near I-355, but since it was so close to Lockport we decided to move the Lockport Campus to this great new location. Parkview's Homer Glen Campus opened for Christmas Eve 2015.
2016 - In early 2016, Parkview began construction on its third campus in New Lenox, near the corner of Laraway Road and South Schoolhouse Road, and opened for Christmas Eve services in December of 2016.
Present – Today, we have a vision for planting even more campuses. There are 4 million people within a 30-mile radius of our Orland Park, Homer Glen, and New Lenox locations who don’t know Jesus. Those 4 million people aren’t all going to come to us, so we’ll go to them and put campuses in communities to help them take a next step with Jesus, whatever that step might be.
If you look at our history, you’ll see that there are tons of people who have sacrificed and given their energy so that we can do what we’re doing today. They have left a legacy - not just to have more people in seats each weekend but to spread the story of God’s grace wherever and however we can: at our campuses, in our service to the community, and in our work in the world.
So, we want to welcome you to jump into that – no matter why you’re reading this today…if you’re just checking us out or heard that we have cool music or that we are the “fun church.”
You need to know that you have the opportunity right now to jump into something HUGE that God has been doing and be a part of changing our community and our world going forward.
That’s our history; it’s what we’re still doing, and we believe it is the future God has in mind for us.
